Las Vegas-based Technicoat Companies, a worldwide leader in industrial waterproofing and flooring and longtime associate sponsor with Kalitta Motorsports, will be the primary sponsor this weekend, April 2-5, on the 8,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragster driven by Doug Kalitta for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A special edition, one-off Technicoat paint scheme will adorn Kalitta’s 300-mph machine for this weekend’s festivities.
Technicoat’s President Bob Coffman and C.O.O. Glen Williams, a.k.a. “the Cowboys”, are fixtures in the Team Kalitta pit area at most NHRA national events with their trademark cowboy hats. Technicoat Companies and Kalitta Motorsports began their marketing partnership near the end of the 2002 NHRA season.
Also, beginning at this weekend’s event in Las Vegas, the competition number for Kalitta’s rail ride will be displayed throughout the remainder of the season as “50” to commemorate team owner Connie Kalitta’s 50 years in NHRA drag racing this year. [4/1/2009]
Scott Thompson, Maple Grove Raceway's reigning Super Pro Points Champion, retired his championship-winning 1995 S&W hardtail and has returned to S&W Race Cars for his new ride.
The new swing arm dragster is built to current Top Dragster specs and features all the state of the art innovations found in S&W's line of Top Dragsters. Thompson's dragster is powered by a new Sunset Racecraft 632" powerplant expected to push him into the low 7-second zone and beyond.

As there have been a few Spring-like days in northwestern Illinois and Earth Day is just around the corner (April 22), it's time to start thinking about the 14th Annual Volunteer Day at Cordova Dragway Park, Cordova, Ill., on Saturday, April 4.
"It's hard to put into words how grateful we are to the people that have helped us over the years," said Scott Gardner. "This year will really be no different as we need all the help (Ed Note mental, fiscal and financial) we can get.”
Various projects are being planned including painting, raking, cleaning, fence mending and more. The big project is to get the gutters on the cafe. Projects begin at 9 AM and go throughout day. Lunch will be served and all volunteers get a free "Fun Day" voucher to use in 2009.
