John Troxel, promoter of the Muscle Car Reunion nostalgia events at St. Louis and Kansas City, Scott Gardner, track operator/promoter at Cordova, Ill., and possibly a promoter with a race at Indianapolis, are going to see if there is enough interest to add a Nostalgia Pro Stock class at their 2009 nostalgia events.
According to Troxel and Gardner, the class initially will have to support itself. That means the teams will have to pay an entry fee and extra crew will have to buy tickets. The purse for the class will be made using the entry fees. The more entries they get, the bigger the purse. The fields will be eight-car qualified unless they get 17 or more entries, which would bump it up to a 16-car qualified field.
The promoters have already made rules and stress they are going to stick to them for the purpose of keeping the cost of building a car as low as possible. The most important rule is that only body styles and brands and ex-Pro Stockers from the years 1970-74 will be allowed to compete. NO EXCEPTIONS, DON”T EVEN ASK!
This class is to represent the original spirit of Pro Stock when it began. All participants will run American-made cars with cast iron motors, tunnel rams, and 4-speed transmissions. These cars must maintain the integrity of this period of racing both visually and mechanically so that participants and spectators alike can relive this great period of racing through this class.
