Vic readies for CHRR… and so do we

As California Hot Rod Reunion participants head for McFarland, CA, this week there are a couple of floppers that’ll be running in the Exhibition Class rather than with the AA/FC’s. One of them is Vic Miller’s “Vic’s Vega” a former “Veney’s Vega”.
It’s an original 118-inch wheelbase ’72 Ken Veney-designed Ken Cox chassis sporting a Hilborn fuel injected 500 cubic inch Chevy big block on 30% nitro built by Vic Miller with a Trans Specialty 5000 Powerglide through a vintage Olds rear end. Vic says that this is the first time in the past 36 years that the period-correct Vega will go down a track on the U.S. mainland – having spent much of it’s life offshore after Veney sold the racecar back in ‘73 to Hawaiian Jack Cambra.
And DRO will bring you Same Day coverage Friday through Sunday, with some pre-race information beginning today. [10/7/2008]
Stanton to drive second car in ADRL

ADRL Pro Extreme heavyweight Bubba Stanton has taken delivery of a new toy. The former ADRL world champion and Battle for the Belts favorite will be behind the wheel of a new Garret Race Cars built '68 Camaro.
Garret Livingston built the Cynergy bodied Camaro for Holly Springs (Miss.) Motorsports Park owner Bebop Davis. Stanton will handle the driving duties with power coming from a 737 CI, 5-inch bore Eagle Racing engine with heavy doses of nitrous oxide.
"What class we are going to run is still undecided. We just plan on doing some testing for the rest of the year with Garret and go from there," stated Stanton. "Garret and I worked closely on what went into the car and the way we wanted it to look in the end. The car owner, Bebop, and myself could not be more pleased, Garret built a beautiful car, the detail is unreal."
This program is in addition to Stanton's primary focus as driver for Roger Henson's Team Widowmaker '63 Corvette in ADRL Pro Extreme Competition. (photo courtesy Garret Race Cars) [10/7/2008]

Seventy-one-year-old Harold Meziere didn’t have the best of days during the Fontana Division 7 race and SPORTSnationals. The throttle stuck open on his dragster and he went through two catch nets before coming to a stop. (James Drew photos) [10/7/2008]
