Halsey newest member of DRO Five-Second Pro Mod Club

Jim Halsey became the 15th member of the exclusive DRO Five-Second Pro Mod club and the first member of the club to accomplish the feat using a nitrous oxide injected/ carbureted engine combination. Halsey ripped off a 5.998/240.68 in the first qualifying round to not only become the first nitrous Pro Mod in the fives but the first to go faster than 240 mph in the quarter.

Just one spot remains open in the Five-Second Club, which is lead by Mitch Stott who ran the first five-second lap in North America at 5.98 way back in 2003!

Congratulations to Jim Halsey and all of his crew, supporters and sponsors. [Jim: Contact jeffburk@dragracingonline.com and give us your jacket size.] (Todd Dziadosz photo) [10/7/2008]

Custer goes Ballistic

DeWayne Custer has joined Ballistic RaceCraft, a full-service chassis shop in Baytown, Texas, as shop foreman.  Custer brings a lifetime of chassis building experience to the company owned by the Heckel family, longtime drag racers themselves. In their 6,000 square foot shop located just two miles from Houston Raceway Park, Ballistic RaceCraft is equipped to build anything from Jr. Dragsters to Pro Modifieds.

Co-owner Shane Heckel is happy to have Custer’s talents on his staff.

“We’re really pumped about having Dewayne at Ballistic RaceCraft,” said Heckel. “He’s been around this business all his life, and has built just about every kind of racecar there is. We can build anything anybody wants, but our specialty is in Super Stock and Comp Eliminator cars.” [10/7/2008]

‘Frantic Fueler’ sets track record

The Spectrum Illuminations “Frantic Fueler” front-motored AA Top Fuel team (not a VRA-legal car) set a new track record at 131 Raceway Park at 5.87 in their last. After having troubles this season, the team backed off the combination a tad and got a handle on the Martin, Mich., track surface. Racing against Charlie Proite’s “Telstar” in the first round of a match race, “Dragster Dave” Daunheimer took the “Frantic Fueler” to a 5.87 at 234 mph and then put a capper on the match with a second win over “Telstar” with a 6.10/171.  (DRO file photo) [10/7/2008]
