Jim ‘Jet’ Neilson going for Land Speed Record?

Veteran drag racer Jim Neilson, who has campaigned a series of Funny Cars and jet-powered limos, now is going after the absolute Land Speed Record. DRO photog James Drew took these shots of Neilson and his LSR car at a recent San Diego, CA, event.

According to Neilson, he has secured a seven-mile long track in Nevada to test on before going for the record.  (James Drew photos) [9/25/2008]

There’ll be a ‘fiberglass forest’ in the desert

The Agent got a note about a Nostalgia Funny Car Association-sanctioned race coming to Firebird Raceway in Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 25. They are advertising there will be a minimum of 32 floppers for the one-day event with 16 AA/FC and 16 CIFCA alky cars.

The AA/FC race is a modified Chicago-style race. All cars make two qualifying laps, then the quick 16 only get paid and the two quickest cars come back. The winner gets a $6,000 payday and the runner-up $3,000.  It is an open competition for nitro cars but you must be a paid-up NFCA member to race. The $42,000 purse is the largest in AA/FC racing history.
