NHRA Silly Season Notes
The Agent found a note in an empty bottle of Azul Tequila left on his front porch wrapped in a napkin from the Rocket Café just down the road from the Motorplex (there is really only one and it is in Texas) with some info on Top Fuel and fuel coupe for next season.
According to the note, Texas Top Fuel driver Spencer Massey may have an arrangement with Don Prudhomme that would put him in the seat of that Top Fuel car should the rumor that Larry Dixon will drive for Alan Johnson’s Al-Anabi team in 2009 come true. Should Dixon stay, a second car for Massey is a possibility. The Agent’s money is on Dixon’s loyalty to the Snake prevailing.
On the Funny Car beat, the report is that there already is a F/C wrapped in the Geico Insurance colors waiting for Melanie Troxel. Several team owners reportedly turned down the Geico deal because it wasn’t for enough money. Troxel’s boss, Roger Burgess, ran without any sponsorship this year, so this rumor makes sense.
And one last rumor has Mike Ashley with two new Pro Mods either built or being built and him returning to NHRA Pro Mod competition in 2009. (Steve Embling photo) [9/24/2008]
