Mr. Tarkington’s wild ride

Occasional DRO contributor Wes Tarkington sent the Agent this rendering along with a progress report on his AA/AT project. He says the 532” Ford long block is assembled. Allen Meyer is building the manifold using an RBS blower manifold with a sheet metal top that holds one set of nozzles and the throttle body. The exhaust/turbo system is 50% complete with the turbo and waste gates ready to install.

His chassis is on the jig getting updated to 10.1E and motorplates for the Ford. Paint on the main body is done. According to Wes, the dual turboed altered will be ready to run in March. [09/23/08]

Distaff side tests for CHRR

The ladies were also testing at Auto Club Famoso Raceway’s last Friday night Test-n-tune session. Leah Pruett-LeDuc was getting familiar with the seat of the Plueger & Gyger ’73 Mustang she’ll drive at the Reunion instead of Canadian Mike Grekul, who is sitting out the event. Leah made a handful of short launches under the watchful eye of crew chief Paul Trabue and legendary owner Steve Plueger.

Mendy Fry made three 300-foot launches in "McCain’s Bomb Squad” ’73 Plymouth Duster nitro funny car. The team worked on getting the clutch dialed-in with crew chief Donnie Couch calling the shots. After the third pass netting a 1.00-second 60-foot time, Fry commented, “This car launches harder than any racecar I’ve ever driven!”  (Darr Hawthorne photos) [09/23/08]
