Mansfield to drive Pro Stocker at Charlotte

Rob Mansfield will drive the third KB/Summit Racing Pro Stocker at this week’s NHRA Charlotte inaugural event The car will be prepared in the same Wilson/Summit Racing livery as at its recent debut at the U.S. Nationals.

At Indianapolis, Wilson’s full-time manifold staff pitted their collective drag racing skills against the best of NHRA’s Pro Stock’s seasoned veterans.  They came within three thousandths of a second of qualifying.

East coast will wait until 2010 for HRH Series

The Agent heard from one of his operatives near Glendora today that NHRA has decided to postpone the rollout of the Hot Rod Heritage Points Series fully into the east coast until 2010. However, the 2009 Heritage Series will still include Cordova (IL) Dragway’s “NostalgiaFest” and Maple Grove’s “Geezers at the Grove” in Pennyslvania, as well as the 7th Holley Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY, on June 19-21, 2009.

The schedule for NHRA’s seven-race, 2009 Heritage Series is due out as soon as the event dates are finalized with track owners on the west coast, but will be bookended by the 51st Annual March Meet and the season-ending 18th California Hot Rod Reunion – both at Auto Club Famoso Raceway. Venues for the remaining events, in no particular order, are Salt Lake City’s Rocky Mountain Raceway, Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, AZ, the “Speed Spectacular” at the Strip at Las Vegas, the “Nightfire Nationals” at Firebird Raceway in Boise and the “Southern California Shootout” at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana. All classes will be run as they were in ‘08 from Top Fuel and Funny Car, Nostalgia Eliminator through to Gasser and Hot Rod classes with a slightly revised Nostalgia Rules Supplement expected over the winter.

The operative also reported that NHRA will actively be signing up racing associations who are currently running as Alternative Sanctioning Organizations (ASO) without NHRA approval. Those ASO’s booking and staging events on NHRA sanctioned tracks are required to have their rules comply with established class, engine, technical inspections, insurance and safety regulations as they have done with ADRL, Goodguys, Super Chevy, AHDRA, NMCA, NMRA and other drag racing series.[9/9/2008]
