Oct. 10-12 Southern Outlaw Tour event cancelled
Due to a schedule conflict with the NHRA bracket finals, event promoter George Howard has opted to cancel the Southern Outlaw Tour race planned for Oct. 10-12 at Bristol Dragway. The Southern Outlaw Tour will return to Bristol Dragway in 2009.
The Bristol race originally was the first stop on the Southern Outlaw Tour with an event scheduled in early April. Weather prevented the completion of the race, and Howard chose to postpone the event until October.
The Dragway season now will conclude with the Oct. 4-5 Bristol Bracket Blowout. The race will include a racer appreciation celebration to thank competitors for their support during the year. The Bracket Blowout includes a regular bracket event and a mulligan race. In the mulligan race, drivers can purchase a mulligan at the gate and use it to re-enter the race after a loss during any round of eliminations. [8/28/2008]
March Meet poster sale to assist Thompson

Nostalgia Top Fuel driver Brad Thompson, who was injured in a terrible top end crash during the final round of Firebird Raceway’s Nightfire Nationals is recovering well and still undergoing some medical treatment at his Visalia, Calif., home. The Agent heard from legendary drag racing artist Kenny Youngblood that the original painting for the 2008 Bakersfield 50th March Meet event poster will be auctioned online, with a portion of the proceeds going to assist in Thompson’s recuperation.
The painting, signed by ‘Blood, depicts March Meet history with Brad’s modern day Nostalgia Top Fuel car as well as Jack Williams in the famed Crossley-Williams-Swan slingshot. The 22x28 inch canvas is custom framed and ready to hang. The highest bidder above a $3,000 reserve, received by midnight September 9, 2008, will be the new owner of this piece of drag racing history.
