MORE THAN BURK AND KEPNER IN THE
ST. LOUIS HOF
Yesterday we ran a photo of DRO editor Jeff Burk and his old friend Bret Kepner from their induction ceremony into the Gateway International Raceway HOF. We neglected to acknowledge the rest of the great folks who were also inducted at the same time. We sincerely apologize to the other honorees for our lapse. Also inducted were Matt Johnson, Jim Lockaby, Jerry Haas and Jerry Bickel, people that Burk has called friends and worked with for nearly 30 years.
Ionic drag racers Don Garlits and Allen Mollet, two of the winningest racers ever to speed down the SLIR/GIR asphalt, along with another fabulous bracket racer, Steve Pearson, Funny Car racer the late Dave Wise, and the heart and soul of the St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club, Eileen Waters, were also inducted.
“Just let me say that it is my greatest honor to be inducted along with a group of men and women for whom I have the greatest admiration and respect,” Burk said. “Thank you all for your help and friendship through the last 30 years.” [6/3/2008]
AUSIC GETS SOME AIR

DRO editor Jeff Burk has been covering Funny Car racer Rocky Ausic since Burk’s days at Midwest Racer and Ausic’s Midwest Funny Car Association of the late 1970’s. Rocky is still at it and so is Burk. Judging from this shot, where Ausic has three of four wheels off of the ground at the just-completed Muscle Car Reunion at Gateway, Rocky like Burk is still having fun at the drags. GATEWAY CLOCKS DOWN FOR REPAIRS
After thinking the timing clocks were successfully repaired, Gateway International Raceway found out differently last weekend but were able to patch the system enough to limp through last weekend’s Muscle Car Reunion (coverage coming tomorrow!), but have now admitted defeat. The drag strip will not hold its regular Tuesday or Wednesday (June 3 and 4) racing this week so that the experts can fix the problem. Gateway fully intends on having the system complete for this weekend's Midwest Jr. Super Series Event. [6/3/2008]
