TESTING DRAMA BEGINS THIS WEEKEND AT MARTIN, MI
The drama over NHRA’s testing ban has begun. In a copyrighted news story in 1320TV.com by Susan Wade, Don Schumacher’s Fuel Coupe driver Jack Beckman (shown) was quoted as saying, "We need to go test. We will find a race track to go test our car," he said. "You've got people who by Denver have to implement the new chassis, they're going to have to implement the 2550 tire, and there's been some crew changes and some other shake-ups in there and to tell them they can't go test . . .? It won't affect the dragsters nearly as much, because we're not getting full fields at a lot of races. They have the opportunity to test during race conditions. Well, in Funny Car you get 19 or 20 great cars every single race. We're fighting to get down the track quicker than everybody every run. We don't have the luxury of testing under national event conditions. So, something's got to give here."
DRO sources tell us that the DSR group has rented the track at Martin, MI, after the Joliet race. Reportedly to test the new tires and Funny Car chassis that will soon be mandatory.
Schumacher has to do something with all of that nitro he has in inventory doesn’t he? Look for other well-funded teams aka JFR, Kalitta Racing, and others to follow suit. (Rich Singer photo) [6/2/2008]
ROEMER SET FOR ADRL DEBUT
Dave Roemer and the Roemer Motorsports Promodifieds.us team are set to make their ADRL season debut and introduce their brand new paint scheme and new Charlie Buck engine at this week's ADRL Summer Drags in Martin, MI. After some major changes in the off-season to the car and powerplant, the Roemer Motorsports team has been patiently awaiting the start of new season. Following some very successful test sessions and a final round appearance at the Thompson Raceway Quick Eight last weekend the team looks to carry some good momentum into this week’s eighth-mile ADRL event. The Jerry Bickel Race Cars-built Chevy has received another variation of the very popular "Gladiator" scheme that is traditional with the Roemer cars. [6/2/2008]
