MAIN EVENT...WASN'T

The race report for the first round of the European 2008 FIA/UEM Drag Racing Championship will read pretty much like that for the 2007 Main Event (last year's opening stanza). A day of spectacular pro class qualifying action at Santa Pod Raceway, followed by a torrential downpour and a howling gale for the best part of two days.

Among the headline makers were Andy Carter in the Lucas Oil backed T/F dragster of Per and Karsten Andersen heading the qualifying sheets with a 4.815/305 in the second of the two completed sessions, whilst 2006 series champion Urban 'Ubbe' Johansson sat at the top of the Pro Mod tree with a 6.226/230.29, resetting the European Pro Mod terminal speed record in the process.

Rikard Gustafsson produced the quickest Funnybike pass outside of the USA with a 6.504/201 to stay close on the heels of the nitro bikes in UEM Top Fuel Bike qualifying. (Ivan Sansom photo)
We’re expecting a full report on the goings on and goings off at Santa Pod in the near future once Ivan and Rose have dried out (again!) and warmed up (again!). This is becoming a bit of a theme this year, isn’t it. [5/27/2008]
