A LITTLE BLOOD WORK

Legendary painter Kenny Youngblood spent the past week repairing the ’72
Dodge Charger body of the “Future Flash” AA/FC, damaged
in the final round of the recent Las Vegas Speed Spectacular when driver
Mendy Fry hit the guard wall after skating in the car's oil. The crew
found all the missing pieces of the vintage body and as Blood put it, “Sometimes
I feel the inspiration of Don Kirby when I am working on these kinds
of repair projects.” The late Don Kirby was one of the most famous
funny car body shapers and painters of the era who Youngblood worked
for in the 70’s.
The repainted Donnie Couch-tuned flopper will be ready for testing in June and head to the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series “Pepsi NightFire Nationals” at Firebird Raceway in Boise. (Darr Hawthorne photo) [5/23/2008]
MOTOWN SHAKEDOWN

Kyle Wurtzel, who last year ran his “Nitro Pony” ‘66 Mustang flopper, has finished his Al Bergler's tribute “Motown Shaker” and the car made its debut last weekend at Match Race Mania in Joliet, IL. The body is a flat nose ‘72 Vega with a Hemi and a two speed. Wurtzel runs 85-90 percent nitro with his 6-71 blower.

The car will be at seven more events in the Midwest this year: June 6-8 Goodguys at Indianapolis, June 20-21 Hot Rod Heritage Series at Cordova, IL, Aug. 22-23 World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova, IL, Sept. 5-7 Goodguys at Norwalk, Sept. 13 US Funny Car Nationals at Martin, MI, and Oct. 17-19 Goodguys at Bowling Green.
