WCHRA BEGINS 2ND SEASON

Gil Nevarez
The West Coast Hot Rod Association starts its sophomore season with the Team Performance Products Spring Nationals this weekend at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.
“Our first year went better than we ever expected,” said series director Tim Rigby. “The racing was great and we saw things like Steve Paulauskis’ huge 6.33 Pro Street pass in less than ideal conditions. Our racers are a great bunch of people and they really appreciate us putting the fun back into the sport.
“We have added two new classes for 2008, the A/FX guys ran with us at one event last year and had such fun they are back for the season and will crown a Champion just like all the other classes. We have added a .5 Full Tree class that allows no electronics to help fill out the field…”

COUNTY BUYS SPOKANE RACEWAY PARK
Spokane County, Washington, has purchased Spokane Raceway Park at auction on April 10 for 3.9 million, plus a 10-percent auction fee, bringing the total to nearly $4.3 million.
The property was divided into 13 parcels, which were sold separately. Spokane County bought four parcels that included the race track, an access property and two properties north of the track.
The County commissioners, who say they will pay for the land with long-term financing, plan to renovate and improve the track and then possibly develop the land north of the track into a multi-sports complex.
More than 300 people attended the auction, including a number of limited partners in the property who hoped to collect on long-owed money. Approximately 600 people filed a lawsuit in 2003 claiming they were cheated out of their investment in the 1970’s by original owner Orville Moe. Spokane was the site for many years of the AHRA World Finals. [4/11/2008]
