SNOW PROBLEM AT SANTA POD

(Ivan Sansom photo)
The European drag racing season got underway with the Auto Trader Easter Thunderball at Santa Pod Raceway, England, over the Easter weekend. With freezing conditions and a snow warning in place from the Met Office it was never likely to be that smooth a meeting, and when two days were lost to snow (including four inches blanketing the track on Sunday) it was a wonder that any racing took place. However, the always hardworking SPRC crew managed to squeeze in a complete day of eliminations on the bank holiday Monday despite snow flurries, and a slew of Pro teams spent the day frantically looking for non-existent "snow settings" in their log books (at least they've got the data now!).

The Pro Fuel shootout (run over the eighth mile) saw Jari Halinen (near lane) defeat Lex Joon (far lane) in the final round pedalfest in the gloom, whilst Andy Robinson took the MSA Pro Mod title and Steve Woollatt recorded some spectacular times and speeds in taking the ACU Top Fuel Bike trophy. We’ll have a full report and pictures from the Pro and Sportsman categories as soon as European correspondent Ivan Sansom’s fingers thaw out. [3/25/2008]
