TOP FUEL DOWN. DENSHAM’S FUTURE IN DOUBT?
Many fans at Pomona noticed the start of the “ripple effect” of Evan Knoll’s Torco Race Fuels recent financial departure now being felt with only seventeen Top Fuel dragsters at the Fairplex. Pomona has traditionally been a flood of Top Fuelers, although according to DRO historian Bret Kepner, Pomona 2001 had just 16 Top Fuelers. For comparison the ’07 and ‘06 Winternats had 21 entrants each.
The field this year was fortunate to have European Champ Urs Erbacher (shown) and Southern California’s Steven Chrisman helping to make a full field.
Rumors of Gary Densham’s flopper team leaving the NHRA tour because of lack of funds were also floating around. Look for Densham to compete on the IHRA circuit. (Zak Hawthorne photo) [2/11/2008]
