NHRA SALE TO BRUTON?
A few drivers and operatives at Pomona took the time to support DRO’s recent stories on the possible sale of NHRA to O. Bruton Smith in the near future. While NHRA has denied any contact with Smith’s people or further interest to sell, a few of the Agent’s reliable pit operatives pointed to Smith’s right hand drag racing man Jeff Byrd and Lowe's Motor Speedway president H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler as being the front men for further talks between the two entities and the possible consolidation of IHRA and NHRA.
One rumored scenario is that once the new $60 million Charlotte drag strip is completed there will be a more formal announcement during the Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals in September. Remember, folks, these are rumors, but one thing is for sure, Compton and Company have now established a value for the possible sale of assets and real estate properties and a mechanism to dismantle the National Hot Rod Association.
