Oh, those hangovers!

SPEEDWORLD

Former Los Angeles County Raceway Track Manager Bernie Longjohn is back west and now he’s in Wittmann, Arizona, at Speedworld Dragstrip.  This New Year’s Speedworld is holding the annual "Hang Over Nationals", as Bernie did for over 25 years at LACR. It’s a three-day racing event starting off with a potluck party on Wednesday afternoon the 31st.

New Year’s Day the track hosts a Jr. Dragster race and a Gambler Bracket for electronics and non-electronics with a test-n-tune.   On Friday and Saturday the bracket action continues in the electronics and non-electronics brackets with $2,000 to win for each class on Saturday and first round buy-backs each day. For more information call Speedworld Dragstrip at 623-388-0039 and say hello to Bernie for us or visit their website. (photo courtesy Speedworld Dragstrip)

CORDOVA

It’s a bit more of a challenge back in Illinois where this year the weather has been cooperating for the chance to race on New Year's Day at Cordova Dragway Park. "The warmer temps have melted most of the snow and created some frozen ponds in the pit area," said track operator Scott Gardner. "However, Dumpster Dan and I have a plan to get the pavement cleared for racing on Thursday, January 1, for the HangoverFest."

Dusters going to Denmark

Andy McCoy Race Cars (AMRC) has reached an agreement with Denmark’s Henrik Pedersen to make the popular 1970 Plymouth Duster body available for drag racers in Europe exclusively through Pedersen’s All-In Racecars. Specializing in the fabrication of high-performance Pro Mod and Top Sportsman drag racing components from chassis to competition-ready vehicles, Andy McCoy Race Cars, based in Washington, Mo., designed the nostalgic-looking race car body that made its competition debut in September.

“We have received a tremendous amount of interest in the Duster since its release, not only here, but abroad,” McCoy said. “We’re excited to now have a presence in Europe and are happy to team up with Henrik because of his reputation for excellent workmanship.”

McCoy and his team completed their first Duster-bodied race car this fall for ADRL campaigner Dennis Radford (shown). Similar cars are now in the works for American racers Paul Halstead, Tim Branson and James Litton. (Ron Lewis photo) [12/30/2008]
