Bowser confirms two Eight-car AA/FC fields at March Meet

Over the Holidays the Agent spoke with Famoso Raceway Track Manager Blake Bowser who said that their September 11 – 12, 2009 Pinks All Out has already received well over four hundred 12.99 ET or quicker pre-entries for the Fall event. The pre-entries for Pinks All Out Bakersfield closed on November 18, but there will be two qualifying races prior to the September show, but you’ll need to hit the Famoso website to get all the details.

Bowser also said that the 51st March Meet has already had strong pre-entries for the historic March 6 – 8 race and all the forms for Racers, Spectators and Camping space are available for downloading on their website. Still one of the best values in this tough economy is a three-day spectator pass for $75 bucks. A tip from the Agent, get your hotel reservations now!

The March Meet nitro classes are shaping up to be a 16-car Top Fuel field and Funny Car will be set up as it was before with an 8-car A-field and an 8-car B-field without any association membership required to compete. This kick-off for the 2009 NHRA Heritage Series will also host the 7.0 PRO Class that has been added this year for the entire season.

A real ‘sign of the times’

It may be snowing in Delaware, Ohio, the hometown of the JEGS Mail Order empire and four-time NHRA Pro Stock World Champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., but the city fathers still managed to send out road crews to change the city limit signs to reflect Coughlin's latest title. Coughlin won his fourth NHRA Pro Stock championship since the turn of the millennium, scoring titles in 2000, 2002, 2007, and 2008, to go with his 1992 Super Gas crown. [12/30/2008]

David Baca making a return to Top Fuel?

One of the Agent’s Top Fuel operatives has heard that David Baca and Rick Hinkleman are buying consumable clutch and engine parts they need to run Baca’s Top Fuel car. Apparently the duo is planning on running a few of the NHRA West Coast races anticipating that there could be short Top Fuel fields at NHRA events next year.

The Agent hears that several other independent teams like the Baca operation are looking to run selected races where they feel there will be a shortage of entries. (DRO file photo) [12/30/2008]

Paul Lee buys McLeod; Roberts returns to company

Businessman and Nitro Funny Car driver Paul Lee has purchased 100% of the common stock of McLeod Industries, Inc. from the B&M company, which had recently acquired it. The sale includes the Weber Clutches brand as well. Lee was most recently the CFO of Boninfante Clutches.

McLeod Clutches was founded in 1971 by legendary clutch “guru” Red Roberts, who will return to the company.

“I’m happy to be back at McLeod working with Paul and the rest of my old employees,” said Roberts. “Our new motto is ‘under old management.’” [12/30/2008]
