New NHRA rules regarding sportsman gold, silver card holders!

This was just posted today on NHRA.com:

Due to abuses of the policies, pit parking complications, and pending changes to the online credential system the following changes will go into effect for all Sportsman categories in 2009: Provisional entries (Gold, Silver, past world and past event champions/) will not be allowed to re-enter after withdrawing.

Bronze Card holders will no longer be guaranteed entry.  Bronze card holders must enter prior to the category reaching quota.
Once a category has reached quota, entries will not be accepted if the competitors grade point is less than when the category reached quota.  Example: If a national event reaches its quota at Grade 4, only competitors with a Grade 4 or higher will be able to enter the event, regardless of the number of withdrawals.

Available transfers within the system will automatically be used during the check out process. Under Payee information competitors must enter address, Tax ID or Social Security number.
Driver changes will not be accepted.
Gate entries will not be accepted. All Provisional entries (Gold, Silver, Past Event and Past World Champions) must be completed online by Monday at 1 p.m. (Pacific time) the week of the event. [11/25/2008]

Layoffs at the National Hot Rod Association

It was bound to happen. Despite the fact that NHRA spokesmen have told the Agent privately that the sanctioning body had its best-ever year financially in 2007 (we’ll have those tax returns soon) and claimed that it was having a great year in 2008 we know of at least one PR/Media type that was laid off after the season was over.

And reportedly as many as a half dozen other NHRA employees got their walking papers last week. Happy Thanksgiving! What a sense of timing. Jeez. [11/25/2008]
