PRUDHOMME, WILKERSON JOIN FORCES

Don Prudhomme and Tim Wilkerson will be forming an alliance for the upcoming NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season. While Snake Racing will field a Top Fuel dragster and Team Wilkerson Racing will campaign in Funny Car, the new coalition will enable the two teams to share resources and discuss tuning decisions.

“Tim has always been a really good guy and a solid competitor,” said Prudhomme.  “I know he has a good relationship with (Snake Racing crew chiefs) Donnie Bender and Todd Smith, and both teams have always been quick to lend each other a helping hand.  For 2008, I wanted to strengthen the relationship between our teams and create opportunities for our dragster and Tim’s funny car program.”

Team Wilkerson Racing has been one of the few remaining single car teams on the NHRA circuit. Wilkerson is the team owner, crew chief and driver. Levi, Ray & Shoup, Inc., an information technology company is headquartered in Wilkerson’s hometown of Springfield, IL, will return for its ninth year as sponsor.

The teams will park together and share information but at this time neither of the two teams primary sponsorship livery will appear on the other teammates car. (Wilkerson photo by Todd Dziadosz / Prudhomme photo by James Drew) [1/10/2008]

YOU TALK ABOUT EXPENSIVE ENTRY FEES

The Agent was reading a racing publication of some sort the other day about the infamous Paris to Dakar enduro road race (the Agent’s automotive interests are varied) and he noticed that the entry fee for the race was about $350,000. Even more interesting was that the winner of the event won around $2,000,000 and that around 500 entries were expected. And you thought a $1,000 was a lot to pay to enter George Howard’s $1,000,000 bracket race. [1/10/2008]

MEMPHIS MILLION AGAIN

Just in case you had heard the rumors that George Howard was moving his annual Million Dollar race from Memphis Motorsports Park to another locale the Agent talked to “Big George” the other day and he said he had signed a long-term contract with the track recently to keep running the race their for many years to come.
