LEE TO DRIVE McGAFFIC’S FUNNY CAR

Nitro Funny Car pilot Cory Lee will take over the wheel of Jeff and Bonnie McGaffic’s Monte Carlo flopper for the remainder of the season in IHRA competition. UTTERBACK SEEING DOUBLE

driving the Pisano & Matsubara nitro Vega and also made a check-out pass driving Marc Stucky’s ’69 Dodge Daytona “Nitro Charger.” The Pisano team was testing a new set of M&H slicks, but reverted to Goodyear's on Sunday to run a strong 6.20, shutting off at 1,100 feet.  

Also testing was Steve Romanazzi in his “Warrior” Vega tuned by Donnie Couch. Romanazzi ran a stout, off-the-trailer 6.13 ET at 230.47 MPH and on Sunday carded 6.11 and 6.06 ET’s getting ready for the nitro funny car show at the California Hot Rod Reunion on Oct. 12-14.  (Darr Hawthorne photos) [9/24/2007]
