GUENTHER HAS SLIM POINTS LEAD GOING INTO FINAL PMRA EVENT

The Teamsters Canada Thunder by the Beach Weekend featuring the Castrol "Night of Nitro" and Second Annual PMRA Challenge will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1-2, at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.

With only 26 points separating the top four teams in this year’s Pro Modified Racing Association tour, each one of the teams has a chance at capturing the 2007 Championship at the final PMRA event of the season.

Leading the race with 1004 points is the Guenther Racing team from Livonia, NY, with Matt Guenther driving their 1941 nitrous-powered Willys (shown). Second is Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario, with a ’69 Camaro, Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, is third with 989 points, driving a 1953 Corvette. The NitroMoose/Ajax Engines 1957 Chevrolet of Kirk and Maria Silbermann of Ajax, Ontario, with Scott Wildgust of Stratford, Ontario, behind the wheel is fourth.  (photo courtesy PMRA) [8/28/2007]

ROMINE RENEWS LICENSE

Multiple IHRA Top Fuel World Champ Paul Romine has renewed his Top Fuel ticket again. The Indianapolis-based Romine who, with the tuning expertise of the late Clayton Harris, recorded the sport’s first five-second pass in a front motored car, reportedly is interested in driving again and would consider a return to either a nostalgia Top Fuel car or a conventional Top Fuel car. OH BABE!

Is uber-sponsor Evan Knoll now branching out into event promotion? The Miss Torco Shootout – a drag race, rock concert, Skull Shine car show, and a Miss Torco Model Search competition – will be held Sept. 7-8 at Tulsa Raceway Park. The event is presented by Babextreme Entertainment Group (who, according to their website, have “America’s Favorite Motorsports Models.”) Knoll’s Skull Shine and Torco Racing Fuels will host a party Friday night and then Monster Energy Drink will host a free concert featuring Modern Day Zero after the Saturday night drag race and model search competition.

Kinda sounds like a Sport Compact event, doesn’t it? [8/28/2007]

MILLICAN, FOLEY TO SHARE DATA

The Evan Knoll-sponsored Top Fuel team with driver Clay Millican and tuner Johnny West has formed a strategic alliance with the Knoll-sponsored Foley & Lewis team. Doug Foley has committed to following all of the remaining events on the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Wonder if all the rest of Knoll’s sponsored teams will be sharing data in the future? Hey, but no team orders now! [8/28/2007]

DO HAVE A COW, MAN!

Carey Bewley, and his team of motorheads at Indy Speed, Custom & Restoration, are working around the clock at their Brownsburg, IN, shop painting and airbrushing the body that Top Fuel racer Bruce Litton will debut Friday at the U.S. Nationals.

Nicknamed the "Cattle Car," the paint scheme will highlight the Lucas family’s involvement in the cattle industry and should turn a few heads at the biggest race of the year.

Bewley and his team painted Bob Gilbertson's Autolite Spark Plugs/Prestone Antifreeze "Jungle Jim" tribute car that won the prestegious Best Appearing Car award at last year's U.S. Nationals and he's looking to double up with Litton in 2007. [8/28/2007]
