TOBLER RELEASED FROM MORGAN LUCAS TEAM?

In a recent interview with DRO, team owner Forrest Lucas said that he was very disappointed with the performance of his Top Fuel team and some major changes could be coming. One of the Agent’s most reliable sources in the nitro ranks reported today that Rahn Tobler has been released and that tuner Richard Hogan will take over tuning duties. The Agent hasn’t seen any official conformation  of this yet from the team, but the Agent’s source is usually very well informed.   (Ron Lewis photo) [6/13/2007]

COUGHLIN SR. NAMED HOT ROD REUNION GRAND MARSHAL

For Jeg Coughlin Sr., the 5th annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion will be a trip down memory lane. As a Hall of Fame racer and the founder of JEGS Mail Order, Coughlin has been at the forefront of hot rodding and drag racing for nearly five decades. At this weekend’s Hot Rod Reunion at National Trail Raceway, he will be honored as the event’s Grand Marshal.

“It is such an honor to be named the Grand Marshal of this event,” said Coughlin. “I’ve always said that the best part of these events is being able to see all of your old friends and former competitors again. I can walk thought the pit area and literally spend hours reminiscing about the good old days. As we get older, we realize how special it is to be able to spend time with the people we’ve race with and against for the last twenty, thirty years or more. My only complaint is that there aren’t enough hours in the day to see everyone you want to see.”  (DRO file photo) [6/13/2007]

DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN

One of the Agent’s Chicagoland operatives called to report that he heard something over the NHRA PA System he'd heard somewhere before. At the recent Route 66 event won by Gary Scelzi in the Oakley flopper over teammate Ron Capps, Scelzi was asked in his Winners Circle interview, "Boxers or briefs?”  Hmmm, we wonder where that particular question came from, since the Ol’ Burkster seems to use that phrase as a parting question in most of his InnerViews here at DRO. Well, you know what they say... They're just reading our mag. [6/13/2007]
