SUPER STOCK/STOCK ELIMINATOR CARS IN THE NEWS: HARVEY, POLACK RESET RECORDS

The 1965 Chevy Malibu driven by Doug Harvey reset the IHRA 1/8 mile E.T. record for O/SA by qualifying with a 0.479-under 8.071 at 82.54 mph at the divisional race at North Carolina’s Kinston Drag Strip last weekend. Harvey also set the quarter-mile mark at 12.77 in March at Maryland International Raceway.

Harvey ran the record time with only crewmembers Brad and Jeyemell Jackson. Crew chief Walt Malafew and crewmembers Art Wolff and Eddy Mack, along with Doug's family, were unable to attend this event. The whole team should be back together when they compete at the remaining Divisional events and the IHRA President's Cup in Budds Creek, MD, and The World Finals in Rockingham.

On the NHRA beat, Super Stock racer Steve Polack reset his own SS/CM record at the Lucas Oil points meet at Pacific Raceways driving his Camaro. The new record is now 8.69. A big tip of the Agent’s derby. . .and your index change is in the mail (hehehehe!)  (Rich Carlson photo) [6/19/2007]

ALOHA!

DRO welcomes a new contributing photographer, Bill Greineisen, from Hawaii. He got our attention with this sequence of action at Hilo Dragstrip. The driver, Bob Monaske, 58, credits a new harness with saving him from getting seriously injured. His Wally Stroupe-built 2005 Cavalier Pro Stock will be out of service until repairs are made. He'll be driving his '79 Camaro until then. (Studio G Photography) [6/19/2007]
