TENNESSEE EXHIBITION CRASH KILLS 6

It was a fund-raiser for children’s charities, but the Cars for Kids event in Selmer, TN, on Saturday, June 16, turned into a nightmare for all involved. Troy Critchley’s Pro Mod went
out of control during an exhibition burnout on a city street, hit a utility pole head on, and then spun into the crowd, killing six and injuring many more. Critchley was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released. He volunteered to give a blood sample to the Tennessee Highway Patrol for alcohol and drug testing, which have been reported as being negative. No charges have been filed.
The accident took place on a stretch of highway with a metal guard rail along only a short portion of the road. For most of the area there was nothing separating the car from the thousands of spectators lined up on both sides of the street. The charity event’s organizers had been holding a car show, parade, and burnout exhibition for several years.
The entire staff of DRO joins the rest of the drag racing community to offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed or injured in this tragic accident. Our thoughts are also with Troy Critchley and his team members, who are devastated by the incident. (Ian Tocher file photo) [6/18/2007]
