TANKS A LOT!

Team CSK’s John Fink purchased a 22-year-old British Chieftan Mark-V Battle Tank, and he has been awaiting its arrival at the teams’s shop in Auburn, Ind. since last March. With much of Team CSK in attendance the 55-ton machine arrived today on a special flat-bed hauler. Perhaps it is needless to report that most of the actual work that had been going on at the shop ceased when the behemoth arrived.

As team member Larry Lush said, "It's gigantic. It's sitting here next to our truck and trailer, and it actually makes the big rig look small."

At some point in the near future, Fink will relocate the tank to a parcel of land where team members will be able to drive it around to their heart's delight. Of course, Team CSK needs to complete the upcoming tour of the continent before any of them will have time to play with John Fink's new toy.[6/14/2007]

MILLER TO MISS REUNION

Danny Miller will be sitting out the National Hot Rod Reunion in Columbus, OH, this weekend. Miller was reportedly taken to the hospital near his St. Louis shop for some unscheduled tests.

His "Rear Gears" ’70 Maverick Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car, with Randy Baker in the seat qualified third for the Goodguys Indy event running a maiden voyage 6.436 last week, but will not make it to Columbus. An alternate funny car has already been secured to fill the booked-in field for the Reunion. (photo by Dave Gansert/Goodguys)[6/14/2007]

SMILE!

The things you have to do when you’re a super star. John and Ashley Force will attend the Friday, June 15, “Celebration of Speed” at the New York Giants Stadium. The father-daughter team will sign autographs, pose for photos and help introduce consumers to Crest Whitestrips Daily Multicare, a five-minute-a-day tooth whitener.

With all of the personal appearances and special events, along with taping the “Driving Force” television show, it’s a wonder John is able to concentrate enough to be so successful on the track this year. Oh, wait a minute. . . .[6/14/2007]

NHRA NEWS AND NOTES

The Agent hears that several of the owners of premier NHRA professional teams, who in the past haven’t been what you would call friendly, sat down to discuss the NHRA’s proposed sale of their professional classes and associated assets to HDP. Seems like these owners wanted to discuss the subject of their intellectual property, likenesses and such being used by the HDP folks and how they might get paid for the use much like their peers at NASCAR are.

One of Agent 1320’s sources in a position to know says that at least one new date for the 2008 NHRA season is a “done deal” and this source also tells the Agent that as of present increasing professional class purses is simply not being considered. If the sale isn’t closed by November or December of this year, though, all that could easily change. Especially if the team owners put their differences aside and PRO actually becomes an active and effective union for pro nitro teams.

A couple of new motion hearings scheduled before the judge have moved the start of the jury trial for Julie Russell’s lawsuit against Goodyear and NHRA to July 9. [6/14/2007]
