RIVAS JOINS MATT SMITH AS BUELL TEAMMATE


Chris Rivas, of Fresno, CA, who left the Mohegan Sun team (shown) earlier in the week, is now the teammate of Matt Smith. Rivas’s bike will be sponsored under the Knoll Gas & Energy brand and will debut at the NHRA race in Joliet, IL.

Smith leads the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock points, while Rivas is a strong sixth ranking. The first-year team recently established a new elapsed time record in St. Louis before

NHRA officials imposed a new weight minimum for all Buell teams.

“We are using this new bike with the intention of adding data to what we already know,” Smith said. “We want to exercise every option we can to win a championship.”

PHENIX DRAGSTRIP PLANS SPECIAL RACE FOR SOLDIER

Wade Mooney sent us the information that the son of ORSCA regular Tony Murphy is a soldier stationed in Iraq who will be home on leave for a couple of weeks. What does son Terry want more than anything? To go racing with his family and friends! Brian Gordy, the manager at the Phenix City, AL, track has scheduled a race on June 10 and has given Terry a free entry. Dad and friends are putting together a car for him to drive.
