FIRST PHOTOS OF JFR’S NEW FUNNY CAR CAGE
Thanks to DRO photographer and contributor Rich Carlson who is on the scene in Las Vegas, John Force has tested his re-engineered Murf McKinney race car featuring a new roll cage configuration. The new cage is designed to protect the driver during severe tire shake situations.
According to Mr. Carlson the first attempt to strap John Force into the new car resulted in Force not being able to reach the controls. The crew then removed the clutch can and re-adjusted the seat belts allowing John to get into a position where he could reach all of the controls a driver needs to.
According to Carlson, who has witnessed literally thousands of nitro car passes over a four-decade career, the team’s first attempt to make the car “shake” failed. “The car left as hard as I ever seen it and went 330 ft without a single shake,” Carlson said. It figures, race cars never do what you want them to do. More as we get it.
