18-YEAR-OLD WINS $50K RACE

College? Who needs college? That may be running through the mind of 18-year-old Rustin Mayse as the Frost, TX, high school senior earned a $50,000 payday at the Big Bucks Bonanza at Farmington (NC) Dragway.  Mayse, who earned a complete turn-key dragster last season for winning the DragRaceResults.com/Goodyear Bracket Racing Series national championship, drove his American Race Cars dragster through a ten-round field of the most talented sportsman drivers in the nation to claim the top prize with a final round defeat of Ken Sullivan.

Mayse strung together five consecutive .00-reaction times leading up to the final round and he used track position to push final round opponent Sullivan into a breakout despite an off-pace .023 reaction when he dumped to a two-above 4.81 for the victory.

While Mayse’s $50,000 triumph is obviously the biggest financial win of his young career, he has become a consistent big dollar winner throughout the Southwest, claiming several $5,000 and $10,000 victories despite his commitment to high school academics and athletics that prevented him from racing every weekend. Look out racers, here comes the graduate! NEW LIFE FOR QUAKER CITY RACEWAY?

Over the last few days QCR has been approached by a group of racers looking to purchase Quaker City Raceway. This is great news for the racers in the area but there is still plenty to be done before racing can resume at the track. The group reportedly has serious investment behind them but more investment is required. On May 8th at 7:30 p.m. a meeting will be held at the dragstrip for serious investors only. Interested investors may contact Mark Mazzant from 9-5 at 1-724-752-8687. Pending the outcome of the meeting, the track may be open soon.[5/3/2007]

ST. LOUIS NITROUS RACER ADDED TO AMS PRO MOD LIST

St. Louisan John DeFlorian made his first runs of ‘07 at the ADRL’s Montgomery race. His nitrous-aided Vette will make its first appearance during the AMS Pro Mod Challenge at the NHRA event this weekend at Gateway International Raceway. Will hometrack advantage overcome the nitrous handicap? Inquiring minds want to know. (Bret Kepner photo) [5/3/2007]
