WHERE’S THE FIRE BRUCE?

Chicago area fire Captain and Top Sportsman racer Bruce Stedry showed up at the Agent’s home track of Gateway International near St. Louis with his brand new Jerry Bickel-built GTO with a brand new Billy Leverentz Oddy Hemi between the tubes. The sanitary Goat was there to make shakedown runs, but the trans had a malfunction and they had to take it back to Chicago for repairs.
The car was built to run in the ADRL Pro Extreme division and Leverentz told the Agent, “There is nothing IHRA- or NHRA-legal about this engine. It is designed and built for outlaw competition.” Leverentz claims the 526 inch Hemi made over 2600 hp on the dyno. (Jeff Burk photos) [11/12/2007]
MOPAR FROM ACROSS THE POND

Paul Mander’s big block Mopar-powered Plymouth Arrow beat the top three Chevy-powered super modified cars at the recent National finals at Santa Pod Raceway, England. The car has an Art Morrison supercar chassis updated to 25.4 spec and is powered by a Clive Bond-built BB Mopar low deck block displacing 436ci single 4 bbl Indy head with a powerglide. Its best run to date is 7.85/177. A tip of the Agent’s fedora to our English reader. [11/12/2007]
