SAMPEY SETS TRACK RECORD, BUT CAN SHE GET SPONSORSHIP?

Three-time Pomona winner Angelle Sampey ran her U.S. Army Suzuki to a track record 6.973 at 188.94 mph to take the early lead. Sampey is scrambling to find a new sponsor

after learning the Army won't be back for 2008.

"I hope that I can hold onto it (the lead) because we're in the middle of finding a job for next year and we need every little bit of publicity we can get," Sampey said. "The news (of her sponsor leaving) hit us hard but it hasn't taken anything out of my determination to succeed. In fact, it's only made me more determined to show everyone we're worth sponsoring. MORAN MAKES QUICK $500

At the Street Car Super Nationals III in Las Vegas, Thursday night’s Pro Street Quickest Pass Challenge netted Mike Moran and his crew the $500 low ET cash bonus for carding a 6.461/233.08 MPH. Mark Miche’s Camaro was second with a 6.552 followed by Giuseppe Gentile’s 6.558 among the runners. As of Thursday night, 38 Hughes Performance Pro Street competitors had arrived at the Strip with over forty expected.  (Darr Hawthorne photo) [11/02/07]
