GARRET-BUILT GOAT GOES TO PICKENS
Mark Pickens, co-owner of Motorvation, a manufacturer of performance chips and controllers for the automotive industry and associate sponsor of Clay Millican's Top Fuel ride, recently debuted this new Garret Race Cars-built GTO in Top Sportsman trim.
Beneath a pristine candy red, black and white paint job with a band of authentic turned gold leaf wrap by Aron Glaser of Twist 'N' Shout Custom Paint, the car carries a Jeff Wilkerson 665 with electronic fuel injection
(but no nitrous--yet), and is backed up by a Powerglide fitted with a TCI converter. It also features state-of-the-art Penske rear shocks, Lamb struts sprung with titanium springs and several other titanium parts including the mono wheelie bar, parachute mounts, steering shaft and lower control arms.
In its first quarter-mile test pass at Memphis Motorsports Park, Pickens steered the gleaming new Goat to a 1.02-second 60-foot time followed by 4.52 at the eighth and finishing with a 7.07 at 193 mph. The car's racing debut is scheduled for the NHRA Div. II race at AtlantaDragway this weekend (Oct. 26-28) and will be featured in the Motorvation display booth at the PRI Show in Orlando later this year. SETTLES MOVING ON
Former NHRA World Champion driver turned tuner, Dave Settles, told DRO that the IHRA World Finals was his last as the tuner for the Zizzo family. Settles tuned the car to several wins during his tenure with the team and they finished second in IHRA points to BruceLitton this year.
The Agent wonders if Settles’ right hand man, Mike Kern, of whom the often-acerbic Settles speaks highly, may tune the car should the team return in 2008. [10/23/2007]
PRUDHOMME DOESN’T LOSE HOME IN CA FIRES
The Agent talked to Prudhomme's team manager Skip Allum and he confirmed with us that his property and house had not burned as reported on message boards. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who live in the area and may have been affected by this disaster. [10/23/2007]
