'G-MAC', DILLARD WIN IN TEXAS

A local hero and a Georgia visitor took the top two spots Oct. 21 in the King of the Hill Texas vs. The World event at Houston Raceway Park. Grant "G-Mac" McCrary, racing out of Keller, TX, started his late-model Mustang from the number-one slot (4.44/170.23) in Outlaw 10.5 and prevailed in the final with a 4.50-seconds pass against the 4.56 laid down by fellow Texan Matt Jones.

In True 10.5 action, it was the top qualifier again who made it to victory lane, as Woodstock, GA's Eric Dillard reached the final in his '91 Stang and went 4.77 at 166.90 mph to beat the4.87 of number-two starter Kenjo Kelley, from Brazoria, TX.

As far as the Agent knows, the 167.36 mph that Dillard went in qualifying on top with a 4.79 is the fastest speed ever achieved over the eighth mile by a door car on true 10.5-inch wide slicks. It also marked a good day for Pro Line Racing Engines, which built both of the twin-turbocharged, big blocks that powered the winning entries. (DRO file photos by Ian Tocher) [10/22/2007]
