NHRA GRANTS ADRL ASO STATUS

Agent 1320 has been told by several reliable NHRA sources that the management of the NHRA and the ADRL Outlaw doorslammer circuit have come to an agreement on rules, with some concessions on both sides regarding rules that allowed the NHRA to grant ASO status to the American Drag Racing League. This allows both NHRA and IHRA tracks to hold ADRL national events without the threat of possibly losing their sanctioning.

Both NHRA and IHRA officials have stated that if the ADRL had ASO (Alternate Sanctioning Organization) status it would be allowed to stage races without sanctions against it. All of this has occurred with less than two weeks before the opening event of the ADRL season at Montgomery, Alabama on Feb. 16-18.

A big tip of the Agent’s fedora to the management folks at both the NHRA and the ADRL for putting their differences aside and making a decision that benefits track owners, racers, sponsors and drag racing in general. Now all concerned can go about their business of promoting and staging drag races and leave the politics to the experts in Washington. [1/31/2007]

DEAL OR NO DEAL?

Don Prudhomme’s Top Fuel operation showed at Phoenix with full SkyTel livery on the cars and all of the haulers, yet the team driver and others on the crew were instructed to act as if there was no deal and save their comments for the “official” announcement at the Winternationals at Pomona. Who do they think doesn’t get this deal. (A.J. Araiza photo) [1/31/2007]

JESSE GETS FINED BY THE FEDS

The Agent couldn’t help making note of the fact that reality show host and motorcycle builder to the stars, Jesse James, got a $ 300,000 fine from the Feds for building bikes from 1988 to 2005 that didn’t meet Federal EPA exhaust emission standards. Draw your own conclusions as to how this might pertain to hot rod/drag racing cars that are built and licensed for the street. [1/31/2007]

SEEN IN THE PITS

Continuing the Agent’s chopper theme, former fuel coupe driver Jim White was seen at Phoenix showing off his new ride to fellow bike rider and aspiring Funny Car shoe Kenny Bernstein. (A.J. Araiza photo) [1/31/2007]
