ARMSTRONG GOES TRUCKIN' IN '07

Longtime Mopar fanatic Mark Armstrong has traded in the 1970 Dart he campaigned last season in ORSCA's 7.0 index class for this 1987 Chevy S-10 pick-up. It's the same ride Quick Vandiver drove to a fourth-place finish in ORSCA 7.0 action last year and, with backing from Southern Truck Parts, Armstrong will remain in the class with it this season.

The 3,050-pound truck, sporting a new, blue hue, carries a 408 c.i. Chevy up front fitted with Brodix heads, MSD ignition, and a Holley carb and fuel system. A Hurst shifter stirs a PTC converter-equipped Powerglide attached to a 12-bolt rearend with 4.88 gears.

"I have known nothing but Mopar for the past 22 years and now it's Chevy time," Armstrong said. "The truck is starting to grow on my wife and crew chief, Crystal. She is expecting at least one trophy this year and I'm going to work my butt off getting her one." (photo courtesy Mark Armstrong) [1/8/2007]
