HARTFORD TO DRIVE SCHMIDT’S PRO STOCKER

Former NHRA Sport Compact Series racer Matt Hartford will finish out the season behind the wheel of Steve Schmidt’s ‘06 Chevy Cobalt Pro Stocker starting at the Reading event. Last week at the U.S. Nationals Hartford worked on the new Don Ness-built car along side crew chief Gary Chomiski while Schmidt drove to a No. 15 qualifying position at 6.716/205.19, losing to Allen Johnson’s Mopar in the second round. Hartford told the Agent, “It really is a dream for me to be racing against my idols, I can’t wait.”  [9-8-2006]

DAVIS DOMINATES AT DARLINGTON


The wins just keep on coming for Suwanee, GA's Ronnie Davis, as he finished on top for the 11th time after going to his 15th final round this year at the Quick 8 Outlaws event Sept.

2, at Darlington International Dragway. Dennis Jordan qualified Don Brown's '53 Corvette No. 1 with a 4.25-second blast over the eighth mile at the resurging Darlington venue, while Davis placed third with a 4.37 in his '63 'Vette. Davis advanced to beat Jordan in the semis, then ran 4.29 at 171 mph against an off-the-pace Jamie Owens in the final round.

Davis also leads the NHRA Div. 2 Top Sportsman points chase and his next racing appearance will be at the NHRA Div. 4 event Sep. 15-17, at Houston Raceway Park. (DRO file photo by Ian Tocher)  [9-8-2006]

BERNSTEIN’S FUNNY CARS STATS


DRO statistician Jim Hawkins did a quick check of Kenny Bernstein’s Funny Car record. KB last raced FC in 1989, when he qualified at all 19 events and at the No. 1 spot at three of them. He won three events. In Funny Car he posted a 31-16 record. His best Funny Car stats are a 5.211 e.t., 280.37 mph and a .404 reaction time.  (Jeff Burk photo)  [9-8-2006]
