TURBO KENNY RETURNS

“Turbo guru” Kenny Duttweiler made the trip from his Ventura, CA, shop to race at the PSCA “West Coast Shootout” at California Dragway last weekend after leaving his Don
Ness-built Oldsmobile former Pro Stocker to sit for the past two years. The last time 70-year-old Duttweiler ran in NHRA Comp Eliminator it was as a BB/AT, but recently he decided to install a 294-inch splayed valve Chevy motor he’d been making over 1200 foot pounds of torque on the dyno. He loaded up the Olds to go racing with his friend Clint Hairston and his orange ’72 Camaro in PSCA Pro Street.
Duttweiler made it to the semi’s with a more aggressive set-up than the Fontana starting line could hold, but managed to back it down enough to run a best of 6.848/207.94 while getting 40 pounds of boost from GT 42 Precision Turbo’s while shifting a Liberty 5-speed trans. Kenny said what he liked best about the PSCA program was, “It’s heads-up and I don’t have to worry about burying the CIC because I ran it out the back door! I’ll be coming back.” (James Drew photo) [8-7-2006]
