NORWALK TO NHRA? NOT A DONE DEAL
An Internet magazine has reported that the long-rumored move of IHRA’s Norwalk Raceway Park away from its long time sanction to rival NHRA is a done deal. However, according to IHRA prez Aaron Polburn who spoke by phone today with DRO, that isn’t the case.
“We have a contract with Norwalk Raceway Park and the Baders that expires December 31 of this year,” Polburn said. “We have been in meetings with Bill Bader Junior and Senior about their re-signing with the IHRA. They wanted a one-year deal, and we wouldn’t do that. We need a three-year commitment from them. That was content of the last conversation I had with the Baders.” [7-18-2006]
VEGAS SPORT COMPACT CLARIFICATION
The Agent got a call from LVMS major-domo Chris Blair to say that the track had indeed paid all of the fees required of them from NHRA to hold the Sport Compact event last weekend. They had a crowd of about 6,500 for the event, but that may have been largely because in addition to the NHRA Sport Compact event the Las Vegas D1 Drift Grand Prix was a special exhibition part of the program. Interestingly, LVMS is the only stop on the NHRA Sport Compact tour that has drifting, although rumor has it the cars may be added at Englishtown in the future. Does this mean that the Sport Compact audience is just drifting away? (Sorry, couldn’t resist) (LVMS photo by David Allio) [7-18-2006]
