DAZED AND CONFUSED, THE OLD MAN OPENED HIS E-MAIL. . .

Sometimes DRO’s Jeff Burk just fails miserably as he did with an item he contributed for Monday’s 1320 notes about jet cars and real racing. First reader Al West

emailed Burk to remind him that Bob Van Sciver at ATCO Dragway has had several real races for jet cars known as the Jet Car Nationals. Then DRO’s Bret Kepner called to remind Burk that when Ted Jones ran the IHRA he held real jet car events in 1980 and 1981. The only guy that hasn’t called yet is the Burkster’s old friend and jet car maven Al Hannah to remind of all of the races put on by his jet car association four or five years back. And the correct number for Cordova Raceway Park is 309-654-2110.

"My apologies to all," Burk grovelled, adding, "I’m back on my medication now. By the way, we had just one call from a jet truck racer, so it was probably a bad idea anyway."

That's the last time the Agent lets Burk add directly to the notes without double checking. [4-11-2006]

NEW RIDE FOR WILSON?

Former NHRA Rookie of the Year (2002) Gene Wilson was spotted at the Outlaw Nationals in Huntsville trying out the driver's seat of Roy Hill's event-winning Mustang as current driver Mike Bell looked on and gave pointers. When the Agent asked if Wilson, a former IHRA Pro Stock champion who's been absent from the drag racing scene the last couple of years, might be in line for a second Hill-owned Pro Mod entry, Hill answered, "Any time Gene Wilson wants a ride with Roy Hill, he's got one. And you can print that." Wilson just laughed. (Ian Tocher photo)  [4-11-2006]
