FONTANA CONSTRUCTION RESCHEDULES
PSCA EVENT

DRO photog James Drew stopped by California Dragway in Fontana on his way to the IHBA season opener in Phoenix and sent us some construction progress shots. According to an April 28 conversation with track manager Dave Danish, "The project is going along fine. Hopefully we'll be pouring concrete next Thursday and the new asphalt is scheduled to be finished by May 15th. We are shooting for the last weekend of May to be open and racing!" Because of the construction the Pacific Street Car Association event is being rescheduled for June 9-11 and the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event will remain on June 23-25.  [5-1-2006]

CANCER SOCIETY TO BENEFIT FROM
2007 OUTLAW NATS

Next year's Outlaw Nationals will feature an even bigger Outlaw 10.5 purse, Huntsville Dragway owner/promoter George Howard promises. TCI/Comp Cams will return as the

title sponsor, he confirms, and the purse will double to $100,000, with more than halfgoing to the event winner, but not the entire $100K as originally reported.

Also, Howard intends to run a 64-car field after limiting entries to the first 100 racers who send him a $100 cashier's check. As the Outlaw 10.5 winner of this year's Outlaw Nats, only Mike Hill is guaranteed a place among the hundred entries, he adds.

"But they don't write a check payable to me. I want a cashier's check sent to me, but made out to the American Cancer Society," insists Howard, who last year lost his wife, Reba, to the disease. "What I'm going to do is present these checks and these drivers on the starting line at Huntsville Dragway and get someone from the American Cancer Society to accept the donation on behalf of the drivers."

Additionally, in order to maintain a reasonable raceday schedule, Howard says the first round of Outlaw 10.5 eliminations will be held Saturday night in order to establish a 32-car ladder for Sunday's action.  [5-1-2006]

A NEW DYE JOB

Dan Dye of Insanity Racing in Minnesota is taking part of the summer off while waiting for his new '71 Cuda from Skinny Kid Race Cars after he sold his blown alcohol Outlaw 10.5 hemi Cuda. The engine will be a 526 BAE/Mike Janis.

"We kept racing with an Outlaw Chevelle in the Pro Outlaw class at NMCA, but our hearts just weren't in it," Dye explained. He plans to run the new car as an IHRA Pro Mod, but a schedule has not yet been set.  (Greg Ozubko illustration)  [5-1-2006]
