SPRING 'CIVIL WARS' STARTS AT ROCKINGHAM

Terry Robbins will be at Rockingham Dragway this weekend competing for the $10,000 top prize in the Holcomb Motorsports/Holley Performance Spring Civil Wars. Robbin's Camaro rang up the fastest speeds in Outlaw 10.5 Pro Street history last fall when he was clocked at 167.41, 167.22 and 167.28 miles per hour during competition.

Other racers expected include defending Spring champion Chuck Ulsch, Spring runner-up Steve Kirk, former NHRA Pro Stock driver Taylor Laster, and Marcus Birt.

The race also will crown champions in Outlaw Limited Street, Southern Street Car Association Real Street, Drag Radial Outlaw Street, Pro Tree Doorslammers, Open Comp, Sportsman E.T., and 6.0, 7.0 and 5.69 index classes. There will be a separate race on Sunday for the 10.5 Outlaw cars that don't make the starting lineup for the TCI $10,000.  (Bret Kepner photo) [4-27-2006]

BYE-BYE BLACK

After a close encounter with the top end guardwall in his Vette at the IHRA season opener, Carl Spiering returned to action at the IHRA Rockingham event in his new G-Force Race Cars '67 Camaro. Although "Big Dog's" Pro Mod is still sporting basic black, it will have a new Eaton Cutler-Hammer paint scheme for the Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend. Using their own E.R.D Hemi engine program,
Spiering's team ran 6.218/226.77 on only
the second full pass on the car.
(And an aside. . .on behalf of all editors and photographers to all racers with all-black or all-white cars who want to get some ink from a print or Internet magazine: get color! Thank you, the Agent feels better now.)
