RONNIE SOX SUCCUMBS
After a long battle, drag racing legend Ronnie Sox succumbed to cancer on April 22. Sox was a longtime partner with Buddy Martin, along with engine builder Jake King. Sox & Martin Plymouths dominated Super Stock racing in the late 1960's and Pro Stock during the 1970's. Sox was known for his talent as a driver, especially as a speed or power shifter using a manual four-speed transmission.

Over the years Sox earned 14 IHRA Pro Stock victories and two Pro Modified events. He won nine of the first 15 NHRA Pro Stock events. In the next few days DRO will go into the archives and present a photo history to honor the great racers memory. (Photo of Ronnie Sox by Jeff Burk, car photo from DRO files) [4-24-2006]
WYATT WINS HIS FIRST NITRO FUNNY CAR TITLE
All of the winners at the Rockingham IHRA national event deserve praise for their wins, but none of them have gone as long or persevered as long as Fuel Funny Car winner Jack Wyatt. Wyatt began his career in funny cars driving a Pinto-bodied alky funny on the AHRA trail, eventually winning a World Championship in that series. Sometime in the 1980’s he switched over to Fuel Coupes and as far as we can tell never won an IHRA or NHRA national event. Jack has crashed, been on fire, and has sacrificed everything to keep fuel racing. His win at Rockingham truly rewards the last of a breed. A tip of the Agent's beat-up old cap to Jack for hanging in there and succeeding. [4-24-2006]
