LAWYERS DECIDE WHO CAN RACE AT GOODGUYS
In a move than can benefit no one except the racer with the most money and the lawyers, a Goodguys spokesman told DRO that lawyers hammered out a deal that will allow John Powers' Nostalgia Funny Car teams to race using late model Funny Car bodies with Firebird noses on them. The deal obviously circumvents the spirit of the VRA body rules (see above photos) that limit Nostalgia Funny Cars to the non-aerodynamic bodies of the 1960’s and '70s.
The Agent asks, What’s next, John Force’s carbon fiber Mustang bodies with a '66 Mustang nose airbrushed on, dual mags, 60-gallon fuel pumps, 14-71 superchargers, or clutch management systems? (photo courtesy of Nostalgia Funny Car News) [4-24-2006]
NEWS FLASH!!!!!!
Agent 1320 has just been told that John Powers could be racing at Pomona with a vintage funny car body of some type. More news when we get it. [4-24-2006]
GARDNER GOBBLES UP ANOTHER TRACK
DRO has confirmed with Cordova (IL) Raceway Park track owner Scott Gardner that he is in the final negotiations with owner Carl Moyer to purchase historic Eddyville Dragway in Iowa.
The eighth-mile track was once managed by DRO’s own Jok Nicholson and was the site of one of the weirdest races in bracket racing history. In a special promotion that happened while Nicholson had the track, Don Prudhomme’s Pepsi Challenger was booked and part of the program was that Prudhomme would race the winner of each bracket at the end of the day with both Prudhomme and the bracket winners racing on a “dial.” DRO editor Jeff Burk personally witnessed the race and says the best part was that Prudhomme won all three bracket races. COLE TO FIELD AMX
While racing at the Cajun Sportsnationals at Belle Rose, LA, this past weekend, Super Stock standout Tim Cole confirmed he's taken delivery of a 1970 AMX built by Mike Pustelny Race Cars in Almont, MI, that's destined for NHRA SS/J Automatic action. The new car is going to the paint shop nest week, Cole said, and will carry a 360 c.i. powerplant when it's ready to race later this year. His current V-6 powered Corvette will switch from Super Stock to Comp Eliminator and Cole plans to race them both at future events. (Ian Tocher photo) [4-24-2006]
TAYLOR'S RIDE GETS PIMPED
Outlaw Pro Mod hitter Frankie Taylor races more than most and consequently is harder on his parts than most. For the ADRL race at St. Louis Taylor drove all night from Texas after winning the Pro Mod race at his home track in Kennedale, TX. He had just one lap to qualify for the ADRL race on Saturday and just missed making the field by a couple thousandths.
Anyway, all of the racing he does has taken a toll on his ’58 Corvette race car so after the ADRL race he stopped at Jeffers Pro Cars to have the car serviced and repaired. The body and paint were basically beyond help so the Jeffers crew fixed some minor problems on the chassis, installed a new body and a new paint job. Larry Jeffers said, “We pimped Frankie’s ride in just a week.” Looks good to the Agent. [4-24-2006]
