MENZLER SIGNS ON AT COMP CAMS — NO FOOLIN'

Legendary sales rep John Menzler, who has been around drag racing almost as long as the Agent, has a new job. He will now be working for the Comp Cam conglomerate. Interestingly enough Comp Cams’ Rick Sparks who will be John’s new boss told the Agent “We hired him on the first of April. I did it on purpose. It seemed somehow appropriate.”

John should be a great addition to an already great staff of racers and drag racing fans that work for Comp Cams. [4-7-2006]

NEW SPONSOR FOR HARGETT

Nitrous Express (NX) will be the primary sponsor for Ryan Hargett of Evansville, IN, during the 2006 racing season. Hargett’s 1953 Pro Street Corvette will unveil a new paint scheme at the NMCA Hot Rod & Muscle Car Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green, KY, on May 5-7, 2006.  (Illustration by CompetitionDesigns.com) [4-7-2006]

FAN PHOTO OF THE WEEK

DRO columnist Dave Wallace took this arty black and white photo of our late friend and the guy whose footsteps DRO editor Jeff Burk followed in 1989 as the editor of Super Stock and Drag Illustrated, Steve Collison. Though “Lulu,” as he was called by friends, was usually grinning like the wolf in one of those 1940’s Looney Toon’s cartoons, Wallace’s photo caught Steve in a side we rarely saw. We picked this as our second fan photo of the week despite the fact that Wallace will probably want a raise.  [4-7-2006]

BURKSTER WRONG AGAIN

You can tell the old Burkster isn’t a real swift motorcycle guy. In his Just Wondering column Jeff Burk referred to the Suzuki bikes as having “two stroke” engines. . .and of course a couple of “eagle-eyed” readers (maybe the only two that read the Burskter’s column) busted him. Of course, the Suzuki’s are four-stroke engines. The Agent thinks Burk is just a couple of strokes away from being retired. [4-7-2006]

COURTS AND NITRO SHOULDN’T MIX, BUT THEY EVIDENTLY DO

The ongoing legal issues between the Pro Nitro folks and ex-employee Jim MacMonagle and his new nitro business just won’t go away. Seems like Don Schumacher didn’t like the fact that Mr. MacMonagle’s logo for his new business looked at lot like Schumacher's Pro Nitro logo and people were getting confused. They circulated this copy of the latest legal document. Read it here.

The Agent says to all parties can’t you just cut the political BS and sell nitro to the racers. They should be deciding who wins this tempest in a teapot not some judge who thinks drag racing is two guys wearing skirts running the hundred-yard dash.  [4-7-2006]
