OUTLAW NATS THIS WEEKEND

The Agent is already packed and primed for the Inaugural Outlaw Nationals this weekend, Apr. 7-9, at Huntsville Dragway, headlined by a $50,000-to-win Outlaw 10.5 race and $20K-to-win Outlaw Pro Mod event. On the undercard are Limited Street, EZ Street, and 5.50, 6.0, and 7.0 index classes, all running heads-up over the Huntsville eighth mile.

Track owner/promoter George Howard said he's expecting more than 350 of the fastest doorslammers in the country to show up, with some early arrivals already lined up at the gate on Wednesday. Regardless, it won't be a first-come/first-parked affair, Howard stressed, as the racers will be pitted according to class, with the fastest cars up front. "It's

the only fair way when some of these guys are coming from so far away and with pretty big rigs, too."

Among the confirmed Outlaw 10.5 stars are Jack Barfield, Marcus Birt, Chuck Ulsch, Richard Sexton, and Steve Kirk. Also committed to the Pro Mod field are Jason Scruggs, defending ADRL Extreme champion John Lynam, Tommy Mauney, Roy Hill, and Shannon Jenkins. Also planning to make his return to competition after suffering a devastating car fire last year is Bryan Dyer.

"They're fired up," Howard said of the mood surrounding this race. "I've had calls from New Mexico to New York and this is going to be a big one." Howard also said the response from sponsors has been overwhelming, too, putting him in the rare position of even having to turn some vendors away. "We're going to have a huge midway; it's going to be something to see."  (Ian Tocher photo)  [4-5-2006]
