PRO MODS IN THE NEWS
Two of the premier Pro Mod cars and drivers had crashes over the weekend which could put a crimp in their racing for a while.
Super Chevy star Randy Adler, driving his nitro burning Nitro Coupe, had a drivetrain failure resulting in a drive wheel leaving the car and causing Adler and the ’57 to impact the wall at the Super Chevy race at the Pomona Fairgrounds. According to DRO West Coast Editor Darr Hawthorne, who spoke with his family, Adler suffered a concussion as well as seriously damaging the family’s ’57 Chevy. It is not known when the team will return, but the car is repairable. You may remember Adler as the driver of a “Street-Legal” supercharged 1960’s GTO which was one of the quickest and fastest of the early Pro Street cars. (James Drew photos)

During qualifying for the AMS Pro Mod exhibition series at Houston Raceway Park, Troy Critchley wrecked his brand new (one race) ’71 Cuda (shown) after a qualifying run that put him on the pole for the event. Critchley had just crossed the win stripe with on a 6.09 4/237.75 lap when, according to what Critchley told car builder Larry Jeffers, the chutes failed to open completely.
Critchly grabbed a handful of brake to slow down the ‘Cuda but the brake rotors heated up and locked up, sending Critchley into the wall at the end of the track. The car is already at the House Springs, MO, shop of Jeffers Pro Cars for repair. (Ron Lewis photo) [4-3-2006]
