VP INTRODUCES CONTINGENCY PROGRAM FOR IHRA

VP Racing Fuels has announced a contingency program for IHRA competitors for the 2006 season. A continuation of the program started midway through last season, it will be administered independent of IHRA, according to Bruce Hendel, Global Sales Manager for VP.

“Because IHRA has an exclusive agreement with its Official Fuel sponsor, it precludes us from working directly with IHRA to administer this program,” continued Hendel. “So we’ll manage it ourselves, and ask racers simply to provide the appropriate documentation to us.”  Contingency postings include the following: TF, NFC, PM, FC and PS -- $500 for winner and $100 for runner-up; TS, TD, SS, STK, QR, SR, HR and TSTK -- $300 for winner and $100 for runner-up; ET winners will receive $100 and runners-up $50.

VP’s program will be effective at the first national event on March 24 in San Antonio, TX. Information regarding fuel for IHRA races can be obtained by calling the appropriate VP regional warehouse, each of which is listed on its website at vpracingfuels.com. Racers currently sponsored by VP are not eligible for contingency payments. [3-7-2006]

PRO MOD TIDBITS

The Agent picked up a pretty strong rumor that Howard Moon, who tunes Tom Lipar’s ’57 Chevy, will have an arraignment to also tune/assist Troy Critchley who drives Dave Wood’s AMS-backed Pro Mod. At the ADRL race at Houston, “Burndown” Bill Barrett debuted as the tuner for the new two car team of Chip King and Thomas Patterson. Both Patterson and King ran in the threes at that ADRL event. ALAN JOHNSON AND TOYOTA STILL IN THE BODY BUSINESS

Evidently TRD (Toyota Racing Division) and Top Fuel’s primo tuner Alan Johnson are still in the fuel Funny Car body business. The Agent was listening to Northern Californian newsman and occasional DRO contributor Mike McKean on a radio call in show when Alan Johnson let it be known that he and Toyota were still making bodies and that they were going to switch from a Celica body style to the Solara body -- which the Agent believes is the same marquee that Toyota will use in NASCAR. Apparently the first new bodies won’t be delivered for three to four months but there are supposedly teams interested. Perhaps Toyota will step up with a bigger sponsorship package for a Funny Car team?  [3-7-2006]

MOROSO TRACK WINS TOURISM AWARD

Moroso Motorsports Park has been named the recipient of the "Providencia Award" for tourism in Palm Beach County, Florida. The track was envisioned by its founder, Dick Moroso, as an ultimate motorsports racing facility. Set on over 200 acres, MMP features a quarter-mile NHRA-sanctioned drag strip, a 2.25-mile road course, and a 9/10-mile asphalt kart track. It will soon offer motocross events as well. Moroso hosts over 700 events per year with an estimated attendance of 830,000 and bringing just under $50 million to the area. Celebrating its 25th year in 2006, the track is now owned by Dick Moroso's daughter, Susan Moroso-Strecker. [3-7-2006]
