WORSHAMS TO DONATE GOODGUYS WINNINGS

Chuck and Del Worsham, who will be racing their Blue Max nostalgia Funny Car at the Goodguys 47th March Meet in Bakersfield on March 10-12, have announced that 100 percent of any purse money they earn during the event will be donated to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, an organization dedicated to providing assistance and rehabilitation services to catastrophically injured soldiers returning from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other theaters. The Worshams have also announced that their sponsors on the NHRA POWERade tour, CSK Auto, will fully match their donation.

With a two-week gap in the NHRA POWERade schedule conveniently allowing them the opportunity to race the Blue Max in a sanctioned nostalgia event, the Worshams are aiming to make a splash, excite the fans, and raise some money for a critically important organization when they arrive in Bakersfield to take on a large contingent of other nostalgia racers.

"The Blue Max project has always been about the love of the sport and the fact that Raymond Beadle's Blue Max was always my favorite Funny Car from my childhood," Del Worsham said. "Once we got the car completed last year and made some runs with it, we not only saw how unbelievably popular it was with our NHRA fans, we also had a great time making it go fast. We were about as excited with that 5.97 as we are running 4.70's in our Checker, Schuck's, Kragen NHRA car. We got the bug, and when we saw that the Goodguys March Meet was set for an off-weekend, we made the commitment to go up there and actually race the Max for the first time."  [3-6-2006]

DENSHAM TO COMPETE AT IHRA SEASON OPENER

Gary Densham has pre-registered his Racebricks-sponsored Funny Car for the Amalie Oil Texas Nationals to be held March 24-26 in San Antonio, TX. Densham says it is hard for a one-car operation to compete effectively against the multi-car teams and he believes he may have a better chance at some IHRA events.

“We’re going to play it by ear,” Densham said. “The thing of it is, if I had my druthers we would race the whole (eMax Drag Racing Series) deal. But to race all 11 events it would cost me 65-70 percent what it would cost me to race all 23 NHRA events because of where the tracks are and where my racing operation is located in California. But we would like to come over and have some fun and get away from a lot of the things we have to deal with on the NHRA side. The three-car teams with big budgets are making it harder and harder for guys like me.” [3-6-2006]
