FINNISH OLYMPIAN IS A DRAG RACER

We got a letter to the editor asking who was the European drag racer referred to during an Olympics broadcast. Now we know. The ski jumper in question is Janne "The Flying Eagle" Ahonen, reigning Nordic Drag Racing Series Competition points champion in Competition Eliminator (a repeat of his 2004 points win) driving one of Finnish-based Eagle Racing's low seven-second small block Spitzer dragsters (usually running in B/D or C/D where Ahonen holds the European records). Here he is catching some air at the Veidec Nitro Festival last year.

A tip of the Agent's toque to DRO's European correspondent Ivan Sansom and Andy Rogers, editor of eurodragster.com, for providing the answer.  (Ivan Sansom photo)  [3-6-2006]

SHAKE, RATTLE AND RUNNING AGAIN

Reader Mike Alberts was at Gene Pudlo's chassis shop in Indiana and saw the famous "Shake, Rattle & Run" '57 Chevy sitting on the jig. Dick Messino retired the car some 12 years ago, but he and his sons Chris and Paul got the bug to get it back on the track, and will be doing some match racing this season. It has a new chassis, paint job, and motor, and will be driven by Kevin Lawrence. (photos courtesy Mike Alberts)  [3-6-2006]
